Proprioception is the sensory system that tells our brain where we are in space. The receptors are mostly in the muscles and joints of our body. Providing proprioceptive input can be very helpful for producing calming and regulation, and a valuable part of a sensory diet. Many seek proprioceptive input when they are overwhelmed, and it can be particularly beneficial following vestibular activity.
Planning sensory breaks and sensory input as part of the teaching and learning day is a sensory safe way to support students. If students are regulated, then their capacity to engage and learn is improved.
This set of over 50 proprioceptive activities was designed by teachers for teachers. They are all tried and tested. They are all practical, student friendly and easy to implement.
The activities are colour coded by category:
* Heavy Work x 18
* Deep Pressure Touch x 5
* Weight Bearing x 5
* Vibration x 5
* Oral x 7
* PE/Obstacle Course x 16
There are also 3 blank cards for each category, so more can be added. For example if parents or therapists have suggested activities for a particular student, you can use a marker to personalise the blank card.
The cards come with suggestions for use along with hints and tips (on the reverse side). They are hole punched, and a hinged ring is included so you can create a handy resource of your favourite cards.
Yes. These cards are designed with the classroom in mind, but they can also be used at home, in therapy, before and after school care.
